Description

🏡 URGENT: Caring Personal Assistant (PA) Wanted - Granton Area

🌟 Position Overview

We are seeking a warm, trustworthy, and experienced Personal Assistant (PA) to provide vital care and companionship to a lovely elderly lady in the Granton area of Edinburgh.

Contracted Hours: 15 hours per week
Schedule: Primarily morning hours, starting ideally at 8:00 AM, Monday - Tuesday - Wednesday – Friday (3-4 hours per day, exact times can be negotiated).
Location: Granton, Edinburgh
Employment Type: Formal Employee Contract.
Hourly Rate: £15.00 per hour (Confirmed by Edinburgh SDS funding).

About the Customer

The lady experienced a stroke over a year ago. She is mobile and independent within the home but requires support with specific personal tasks and relies on a wheelchair for safety and stability when leaving the house. She has a sharp mind and values engaging conversations, reading, and games.

A genuine affection for animals is essential, as she shares her home with a friendly dog and three cats.

🔑 Role and Responsibilities

Your duties as a Personal Assistant are centred on providing person-centred, compassionate support:

Personal Care: Providing dignified assistance with washing, dressing, and personal hygiene.
Mobility & Community Access: Safely assisting with transfers (getting into/out of chairs) and providing skilled wheelchair assistance for all outings, appointments, and shopping trips.
Domestic Management: Performing light housekeeping, laundry, dishwashing, and general maintenance of a tidy home.
Nutritional Support: Assisting with meal preparation and prompting.
Companionship: Offering stimulating company through conversation, reading aloud, and playing games.
Pet Care: Light care duties for the dog and three cats (feeding, short walks, etc.).

Mandatory Scottish Compliance & Employment Details

This position is funded via Self-Directed Support (SDS) Option 1 (Direct Payment) from the Local Authority.

As a council-approved role, the following are MANDATORY and non-negotiable:

PVG Scheme Membership: The successful candidate must be, or agree to become, a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme administered by Disclosure Scotland. This is a compulsory criminal record check.
Formal Employment (PAYE): This is a formal employed contract, NOT a self-employed or cash-in-hand position. You will receive a written contract, annual leave entitlement, and your wages will be processed through an official payroll system (PAYE).
Council Approval: The terms and conditions of this specific role must be formally approved by the City of Edinburgh Council's Self-Directed Support Team.
Driver Desirable: Access to your own car and a valid UK driving licence is highly desirable for facilitating community access and appointments.

How to Apply

This is a fulfilling role where you can make a significant, positive difference to someone's quality of life.

To apply, please submit your CV along with a covering letter introducing yourself, detailing your experience (especially with personal care and wheelchair mobility), and explaining why you feel you are the right fit for this lovely lady and her pets.
