Self-Employed Support Worker / Household & Companionship Services Private household – long-term arrangement

Location: Great Stuart Street, Edinburgh

Engagement Type: Self-Employed Contractor (not employment)

Rates: £18–£22 per hour (dependent on experience and scope of services) Payment on receipt of invoice

We are seeking an experienced, genuinely self-employed support worker to provide a combination of personal support, household services, and companionship within a private household.

One adult requires significant physical and cognitive support. The other requires companionship and practical household assistance. This is intended as a long-term working relationship based on consistency, dignity, and calm routines.

Services Required

Personal Support (Father) Dementia-aware support and companionship
Assistance with transfers
Toileting support and clean-ups as required
Washing, dressing, and personal care
Catheter bag checks and night bag setup (non-clinical)
Support with morning and evening routines
Household Services (Both Parents) Preparing and cooking meals
Laundry and bed changes
Cleaning, tidying, washing up
Light shopping and errands
General household organisation
Companionship (Mother) Friendly conversation and company
Support with daily routines
Encouragement with meals, rest, and gentle activity

Working Arrangement

Depending on needs, there may be up to approximately 84 hours per week of service provision, potentially divided between two self-employed contractors who coordinate coverage between themselves.
No guaranteed or fixed hours
Availability and scope agreed in advance
No obligation on either party to offer or accept additional work
The contractor remains free to provide services to other clients.
The contractor may provide a suitably qualified substitute, subject to reasonable checks (DBS, experience, right to work)

Requirements

Genuinely self-employed and able to invoice
Relevant experience in dementia and personal care
Comfortable with toileting and intimate care
Public liability insurance
Disclosure Scotland / DBS (or willingness to obtain)
References required
