Description

Are you an empathetic, motivated, and dedicated individual ready to play a critical role in supporting the well–being and academic success of secondary school students?

We are seeking a proactive Pupil Support Worker to join our dedicated pastoral team. This vital, full–time position is focused on addressing the personal, social, and emotional barriers that prevent students from achieving their full potential in the classroom. If you have experience in youth work, support services, or an educational setting, we encourage you to apply.

Core Responsibilities: Student Welfare and Engagement

You will be the first point of contact for students requiring immediate support, focused on enabling them to return to the classroom ready to learn.

Pastoral Support: Provide one–to–one and small–group support to students experiencing emotional difficulties, friendship issues, anxiety, or low self–esteem.

Engagement and Attendance: Work collaboratively with the Attendance Team to identify and address barriers to regular school attendance, motivating students to engage positively with their education.

Behaviour and Inclusion: Support the implementation of the school's behaviour policy, utilising de–escalation techniques and restorative approaches to manage minor conflicts and reintegrate students into lessons following difficulties.

Liaison: Act as a key link between students, teachers, parents/carers, and the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to ensure a holistic approach to student welfare.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, confidential records of interventions, incidents, and outcomes, contributing to student profiles and reviews.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to youth development:

Experience: Proven experience working with young people (ages 11–16) in a supportive capacity (e.g., youth worker, school support staff, mentoring, or care setting).

Skills: Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to build professional and trusting relationships quickly.

Resilience: The ability to remain calm, patient, and professional when dealing with challenging or sensitive situations.

Safeguarding: A robust understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection policies.

Checks: A current enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one immediately).

Why Join Our School?

Impactful Role: Directly contribute to improving student well–being, attendance, and educational outcomes.

Supportive Team: Be part of a caring and collaborative pastoral department with regular professional development opportunities.

Stability: A permanent, full–time contract starting as soon as possible in the new year.
