Job Title: Functional Skills English Tutor

Location: Rochester

Salary: £25,000–£34,000 (Dependant on experience)

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a passionate and experienced Functional Skills English Tutor to join their team in Medway. The Functional Skills English Tutor role involves delivering Entry Level 1–3 and Level 1 & 2 Functional Skills English to small groups (up to 12 learners).

This is not a mainstream teaching role. You will be working with learners who have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, Down syndrome, and other complex learning needs.

Success in this role as Functional Skills English Tutor requires patience, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to supporting learners who may require additional help with communication, engagement, and emotional regulation.

Key Responsibilities

* Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Functional Skills English lessons

* Develop schemes of work aligned to curriculum standards

* Assess learner ability through diagnostics and ongoing evaluation

* Support learners’ progress with tailored teaching strategies

* Prepare learners for exams and track their development

* Maintain accurate records and complete administrative tasks

* Work collaboratively with the Quality Assurance team to meet KPIs

* Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusive learning environments

* Participate in CPD and standardisation activities

What Our Client Is Looking For

Essential:

* Teaching qualification (AET, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent)

* English qualification (GCSE Grade C/4 or Functional Skills Level 2)

* Assessor qualification

* Experience teaching learners with varying abilities and additional needs

* Experience supporting learners with SEND

Desirable:

* SEN qualification

* Knowledge of EHCPs
