Description
Location: Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Inverclyde — travel to care homes and community venues required
Working pattern: Around 8–12 sessions per week, each lasting 1.5 hours, with preparation and travel required in addition
About the role
Are you someone who puts people at ease, enjoys a good conversation and brings enthusiasm to what you do?
The Turnstyles is a Scottish non-profit social enterprise looking for a warm, reliable and enthusiastic Sessional Virtual Travel Facilitator to help deliver and promote our programmes across Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Inverclyde.
We can teach you the technology. What we’re really looking for is someone who is great with people.
Our Virtual Travel experiences help older people, people living with dementia and people with additional support needs explore the world through virtual reality. Participants can revisit familiar places, discover new destinations and share the memories and stories these experiences bring to mind.
This role is about much more than helping someone put on a headset. It is about making people feel welcome, listening with genuine interest and turning a virtual visit into a meaningful shared experience.
What you’ll do
Lead Virtual Travel sessions: Prepare and deliver welcoming, engaging sessions in care homes and community settings.
Support each participant: Introduce people to the headsets, help them feel comfortable and confident, and adapt your approach to their needs.
Encourage conversation: Use destinations and experiences to spark reminiscence, curiosity and discussion, allowing people to participate at their own pace.
Look after the equipment: Help ensure headsets and session materials are clean, organised and ready to use.
Build positive relationships: Work closely with care staff, community organisations and local partners.
Help our programmes grow: Introduce The Turnstyles to potential partners and help promote opportunities for more people to take part.
What we’re looking for
You will bring compassion, patience and positive energy, alongside the reliability and organisation needed to prepare for sessions, arrive on time and represent The Turnstyles professionally.
You should enjoy meeting people, feel comfortable leading a small group and be willing to learn, contribute ideas and become part of a small, supportive team. An interest in travel, history, culture and people would be a real advantage.
Experience of working with older people, people living with dementia or people with additional support needs is welcome, but not essential. Your attitude, approach and willingness to learn matter more to us than previous experience with VR.
A full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work are essential. PVG membership is required, and we can support you through the process.
What we offer
We provide training in our equipment and approach to delivering sessions, along with the equipment, uniform and ongoing team support you need.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to a growing social enterprise, build rewarding relationships and help create experiences that people look forward to — whether that means revisiting a favourite holiday destination or discovering somewhere entirely new.
How to apply
Please email hello@theturnstyles.org with a short introduction explaining why this role interests you and what you would bring to it. Tell us about any relevant experience, your availability and where you are based.
We would love to hear what makes you the right person to help bring these experiences to life.
