• Driving Requirements: Yes – automatic Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV) available on duty
• Essential: Childcare experience; clear spoken English; genuine passion for supporting children/young people with additional needs; female applicants only
• Desirable: Disability experience; Level 2 Certificate in Social Care; PEG feeding and hoist experience (or willingness to train)
• Start Date: ASAP
• Days & Hours: 4 weekend shifts per month (mix of Saturdays and Sundays) on a rota across a team of three

About the Client/Child: Helen (14) is a sociable and cheerful young person who enjoys cinema trips, country walks, Barbie and Disney, arts and crafts with her two younger brothers, swimming/hydrotherapy, TV, baking and anything beauty-related.
Helen has cerebral palsy and developmental delay and requires full adult support with her care needs. She is a wheelchair user and her home is fully adapted with hoists. She receives a blended diet via PEG and has epilepsy, which is well managed with medication although seizures can occur. Helen sometimes experiences panic attacks and benefits from reassurance. She communicates her preferences through eye-pointing, facial expressions and vocalisation.
The Role at a Glance: You will support Helen during weekend activities while meeting her healthcare and personal care needs. This often includes family outings and enjoyable activities at home. The role can feel like a “big sister” position—encouraging fun experiences, including pamper sessions. Occasionally you may supervise Helen’s brothers (aged 11 and 6) briefly while parents attend to Helen.
Typical shifts are 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, four days per month. Days are flexible and agreed with the family (for example one full weekend monthly or alternate weekends). Occasional overnight shifts and additional school-holiday hours may also be available.
This Job Would Suit: A reliable, friendly and nurturing support worker who enjoys engaging with young people. Disability experience is preferred but not essential—this role also suits someone with childcare experience keen to develop skills in specialist support. Professionalism, discretion and clear communication are important when working within the family home.
Why You’ll Love This Role: You’ll join a warm and welcoming household and support a delightful young person. Comprehensive training is provided, including medication administration, moving and handling, first aid and PEG feeding.
Recruitment Process: This vacancy is managed by Snap Care Shortlist Service. Applications are reviewed against essential criteria before suitable candidates are shared with the client/case manager.
Please note: Unfortunately, we are unable to provide sponsorship for any vacancies. Where a specific gender is required, this is a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.
