Head of Marketing (9–Month Interim Contract)

Make a difference every day with PDSA

About Us

Join us to help us grow our impact for People and the Pets they love. For over a century, PDSA has provided vital veterinary care for the pets of people experiencing financial hardship.

We're on an ambitious journey of transformation, evolving how we grow our brand, engage supporters, grow income and increase our impact now and in the long term. As we continue to adapt to changing supporter behaviours and an evolving external environment, we're looking for an experienced marketing leader to help shape the next phase of our growth.

This is a rare opportunity for an exceptional interim Head of Marketing to provide strategic direction during a pivotal period for the charity. Leading and developing a talented marketing team, you'll help define our Strategic Direction, guiding our approach to growth, supporter acquisition, retention and engagement, ensuring marketing plays a central role in delivering long–term fundraising growth and organisational success.

If you combine strategic marketing expertise with a deep understanding of fundraising and charitable organisations, we'd love to hear from you.

About You

We're looking for a proven senior marketing leader who can quickly assess, challenge and strengthen an established marketing function.

You'll bring significant experience from the charity sector, with a strong understanding of brand, fundraising propositions, audiences, supporter acquisition, retention and lifetime value. You'll be equally comfortable setting long–term strategic direction within the function, working as a member of our Senior Management Team and guiding the delivery of the plan through the team and broader organisation.

This role requires someone who has successfully led teams through change, creating clarity, focus and momentum in complex environments. You'll use a blend of your experience, supported by data, insight and market understanding to identify opportunities for growth while ensuring activity remains aligned to organisational priorities and supporter needs. You have proven experience in delivering through others and building high performing teams.

You'll have:

Significant senior–level marketing leadership experience within the charity sector.

A strong track record of delivering long term awareness, supporter and income growth through effective strategies.

Experience partnering closely with fundraising teams to develop integrated plans and commercial outcomes.

Demonstrable success leading organisational, cultural or operational change.

Strong strategic planning capability with the ability to quickly identify priorities and opportunities.

Experience building successful strategic agency partnerships. Leading a team to manage integrated budgeting and planning

The confidence and credibility to influence senior stakeholders and lead through periods of transformation.

A passion for creating customer and supporter–centric experiences that drive engagement and long–term value.

A clear vision of how to build and develop successful teams

Most importantly, you'll be excited by the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy, providing a clear roadmap for future growth while developing the capability and confidence of the team around you.

Rewards, Support and Benefits

We're really passionate about being a great place to work, somewhere people feel proud of what they do, connected to a meaningful purpose, and able to make a genuine difference every day. Our teams are collaborative and supportive, and we encourage everyone to bring their ideas, individuality and passion for pets to work with them.

As well as a rewarding role and a positive, people–focused culture, we also offer a wide range of benefits, including:

Car allowance 5,800 per annum.

25 days' holiday plus Bank Holidays, with option to buy or sell an extra five days.

Three paid special days off: Volunteering Day, Celebration Day and Wellbeing Day annually.

Generous pension options, with PDSA contributions starting at 5% and rising to 10%.

Life assurance providing four times your annual salary.

AXA Health Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 wellbeing support.

Retail, holiday and lifestyle discounts through our Fetch benefits platform.

Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave.

Access to Vitality Private Medical Insurance.

10% discount on PDSA Pet Insurance plus access to staff veterinary services.
