Description

I am thinking of starting to host a regular programming workshop at our office in Bracknell. This would likely be one morning or afternoon a week, and probably at the weekend initially. There would be a limited number of pre-bookable slots (probably 6).

This would not be an academic programme (where perhaps you would not actually really learn much, but you'd tick some training day boxes and get a nice certicate - for some outrageous corporate fee). This would be hands on programming practice supervised by a coder with a significant amount of actual professional experience. Our outfit has built - and is actively building - real software applications for commercial use. (And note that recruiters for most desirable coding jobs don't care about certificates. They want to know if you can actually code.)

Bear in mind that coders who are generally successful tend to be passionate about their craft (and don't just want to get a high paying job, for example). They actually enjoy the creativity of building applications and get a kick out of problem solving. They tend for the most part to be "self taught" - because their interest drives them to find answers independently. However, judging from my own experiences, there is definitely a place for a small percentage of active guidance, which if applied wisely can speed progress considerably - and that's what I'd be aiming to provide here.

Therefore this would probably work better if you (a) have an app in mind that you want to build (or maybe even have started already), (b) realise that learning how to build it is ultimately your own responsibility and (c) arrive with some idea of the questions you want to ask and what you want to get out of the session in general.

Since this is more of a community-relations driven initiative we'd keep the fee low (perhaps £50 + VAT for a 3 hour session). TBC - but much less than those corporate fees. You could also attend only when you needed (by pre-booking, assuming a slot was available).

Note also:
* This would be for adults only (18+) - but no other age or experience requirements. Only enthusiasm!
* At this stage the idea is speculative and will only go ahead if enough interest is expressed.

If you are interested please send a message, and include a few sentences describing your situation and why you're interested in joining.

I look forward to hearing from you!
