Description

Are you a highly empathetic, resilient, and experienced professional from a Children's Residential Care or Youth Support background? Do you excel at building trust with young people facing significant challenges?

We are seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Worker to join our secondary academy provision in Blackpool. This pivotal role is focused on providing intensive, therapeutic, and preventative support to students with complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Your experience in a residential setting will be crucial in understanding and managing the profound emotional and behavioural barriers our students face.

Core Responsibilities: Dedicated Student Support

Your primary focus will be supporting the emotional well–being and engagement of our students, helping them thrive in an academic setting.

Intensive 1:1 and Group Support: Provide direct emotional, social, and academic support to students, particularly those who have experienced trauma or attachment difficulties.

Crisis and Behaviour Management: Utilize your expertise in de–escalation techniques and restorative practices to manage complex and challenging behaviour incidents effectively and calmly.

Liaison and Advocacy: Act as a key link between the school, parents/carers, and external agencies (e.g., social services, CAMHS), informed by your knowledge of safeguarding and multi–agency working from the care sector.

Well–being Programmes: Plan and deliver targeted intervention programmes focused on building self–esteem, improving social skills, and promoting resilience.

Attendance & Engagement: Proactively monitor attendance and develop strategies to address non–engagement, ensuring students feel safe and motivated to attend the academy.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will have hands–on experience in a regulated care environment and a passion for holistic support:

Essential Experience: Significant experience working in a Children's Residential Care Home, Youth Offending Service, or similar regulated therapeutic environment.

Specialist Knowledge: A deep understanding of the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and trauma–informed practice.

Intervention Skills: Proven ability to build strong, professional relationships with vulnerable young people quickly and effectively.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, necessary for writing detailed records, reports, and liaising with professionals.

Safeguarding: A robust understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection legislation.

Why Join Our Academy in Blackpool?

Financial Reward: A competitive salary package exceeding 500 per week PAYE (paid via PAYE).

Meaningful Role: Work where your specialist knowledge makes an immediate and visible difference to student stability and progress.

Support: Be part of a highly collaborative and supportive pastoral and SEN team committed to well–being.

Professional Development: Access to continuous professional development (CPD) in therapeutic education.
