This is a Chinese instrument called zhongruan (medium ruan). The ruan is over 1000 years old and is staple amongst Chinese traditional music. The ruan is often called the Chinese guitar because of the similarities between the ruan and the guitar.
This ruan is usually tuned GDgd but alternative tunings can be used. The frets on the ruan are higher than the frets on the guitar so the fingers never actually touch the fretboard like they would on the guitar or mandolin.
This ruan is only a couple months old but I am selling it because I have two and only really need one. It comes with a case and a pick. It plays really well and is suitable for people wanting to learn the ruan and/or guitar players who want to experiment with an Asian sound.
