JOB TITLE - TOWN PLANNER

LOCATION - EXETER

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a respected planning and heritage consultancy in their search for a Town Planner to join their team in Exeter.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist consultancy working across a diverse portfolio of projects including residential, rural, and heritage-led developments. The successful Town Planner will gain valuable experience across both planning and heritage considerations within a collaborative and supportive environment.

THE ROLE

You will be involved in delivering planning projects from initial appraisal through to submission and determination, supporting a wide range of clients.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with both planning and heritage professionals, making it ideal for a Town Planner looking to broaden their expertise and work on sensitive and high-quality developments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Preparing and managing planning applications and appeals

Assisting with heritage statements and impact assessments

Undertaking site appraisals and planning feasibility assessments

Preparing planning statements and supporting documentation

Liaising with Local Planning Authorities, conservation officers, and stakeholders

Supporting senior team members on complex and heritage-led projects

Attending site visits, client meetings, and consultations

Conducting planning and heritage policy research

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

RTPI accredited degree in Town Planning or a related discipline

Working towards MRTPI (or recently achieved)

Experience within a planning consultancy or local authority environment

Good understanding of UK planning policy and heritage legislation

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

A proactive and collaborative approach
