Nature's Fury
Extreme Weather
The sun, wind and rain are basic necessities of life. But sometimes the weather goes beyond the normal patterns with devastating effect. Here you will see the innermost workings of a storm system, revealing the forces that drive our weather. From the phenomenal aurora borealis to the bizarre down pouring of fish and frogs, we learn that the earth is a delicate and ever-changing environment. Finally this incredible programme delves into the past to explain how earth's volcanic origins helped to create weather as we know it.
Hurricanes
Hurricanes are the largest storms on earth. Generating winds of up to 200 mph, on average 50 of these killer storms are spawned in our oceans every year, with about one third striking land with deadly force. This programme features incredible footage of hurricanes, including the devastating Hurricane Pauline which hit Acapulco in 1997 causing 400 deaths, and follows a storm chaser who has witnessed over 30 typhoons, as well as first hand testimonies of many others who have witnessed the devastation caused.
Global Catastrophe
Planet Earth has the capability to unleash awesome destruction upon us at any time. Brutal droughts, driving blizzards, tornadoes and hurricanes, all can be traced back to a single cause, a global shift in the delicate system that control our weather. In 1997 and 1998 'El Nino' wreaked havoc around the global, floods, fire and drought ravaged the earth. Featuring incredible footage and expert commentary, this DVD tells the full story of the phenomenon of 'El Nino.'
Floods
Amazingly, nature's most deadly force is water. Floods kill more people than any other of the world's natural disasters and destroy the lives of millions more. This programme features incredible footage of floods from around the world, from Northern California to South Australia, the Yangtse River in China to the Spanish Pyrenees. Unfortunately, no amount of forecasting can hold back the unstoppable power of nature's greatest force.
