Description

Hi, I'm Stuart. In 2020, I completed my four-year diploma in psychotherapy at the Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy. My decision to train as a therapist, which began with my own personal therapy, is the fruit of a life-long interest in psychoanalysis and human nature.

Through my own therapy, I've learnt how transformative it can be to be understood, to be listened to with openness, honesty and care. I try to create a space in which it's safe to look at the parts of ourselves that are difficult to accept. In this way, therapy is a process of self-understanding. But I believe that therapy must also foster a deep emotional understanding between people, inside and outside the therapy session.

In my practice, I've helped clients work through painful issues like depression, relationship-breakdown, communication difficulties, disturbances in intimacy, anxiety, borderline psychosis, suicidal ideation, obsessive modes of thinking, dreams and nightmares, grief and mourning, anger, self-harm and other self-destructive impulses, poor self-esteem, sexual difficulties, gender dysphoria and emotional dysregulation. These issues often have their origin in our early lives and early relationships, and I aim to provide a space in which old restrictive patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour can be worked through, understood and, most importantly, changed.

I have a special interest in working with trauma, borderline conditions (BPD) and self-harm. I'm also very interested in helping with issues around gender and sexuality. I'm LGBTQIA+ friendly and very happy to work with people from any and all class, faith, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

I entered psychotherapy with Stuart after a failed initial attempt to access help elsewhere. Stuart has made me feel comfortable in sharing experiences which were not easy for me to accept and showed both great listening skills and professional expertise in guiding me to a much clearer understanding of the issues and helping me find solutions. I have found the sessions with Stuart enlightening with many moments of sudden insight and clarity which have been triggered by his skills.

I have been receiving psychotherapy from Stuart for over 3 years now, and found him on bark in the midst of a very dark place in my life, and truly believe I could not have overcome what I have without his help. I attribute so much of my growth and self-understanding to these sessions. He is kind, calm, attentive and a true safe space curator- and is also always ready to help unpick the most difficult questions with me. I am forever grateful to have found such a great therapist and really feel like he saved my life.

I have been receiving counselling with Stuart for more than a year now and I thank my lucky stars to have found him in one of the most distressing times in my life. His calm demure and attention to detail ha helped me greatly to understand more about myself creating a safe space to express my thoughts and feelings without any judgement. Well recommended!
