Role Summary
Due to ongoing strategic initiatives and a focus on enhancing safety standards across frontline waste and environmental operations, our Client is seeking an experienced Health and Safety professional to lead on safety management for street cleansing activities. This pivotal role is designed to strengthen health and safety compliance within their operational teams, ensuring standards are not only met but exceeded. The appointment is a fantastic chance for a committed H&S expert to have a tangible impact on public service delivery, acting as a key figure in promoting a safety–first culture on the ground. This is a temporary contract position, offering an excellent platform to contribute to essential civic projects.
Responsibilities
Lead the development, implementation, and review of health and safety policies tailored to street cleansing and environmental teamsConduct risk assessments and site inspections to identify hazards and recommend appropriate controlsProvide expert advice and support to operational teams on health and safety mattersCollaborate with frontline staff and management to ensure compliance with legal and organisational safety standardsFacilitate safety training sessions and advisory briefings for staff and contractorsInvestigate safety incidents and near–misses, ensuring thorough reporting and root cause analysisSupport the ongoing development of safety best practices across all frontline waste and environmental services
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience in a health and safety management role within the waste management, environmental, or frontline public service sectorsStrong knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to operational environmentsDemonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigationsExcellent communication skills, with an ability to engage and influence operational teamsRelevant H&S qualifications, such as NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalentA proactive attitude and capable of working independently on safety initiatives
Desirable Skills & Experience
Additional experience within civil or street cleansing operationsKnowledge of industry–specific safety standards or best practice guidelinesExperience working within a local authority or public–facing environment
