She is in very sound mechanical order having been checked over in our own workshop.
Fitted with the well regarding 1900cc non-turbo 60 BHP diesel VW engine (1X) with a 5 speed manual gearbox, she is the very reliable and economical one in the range of engines, these mid-90's VW Diesel engines are known for extreme longevity and excellent MPG. Power steering makes the T4 easy to handle both out on the road and when you need to park up for camping too. There is a towbar with electrics fitted, so she can tow a trailer too if required.
The is a Pioneer brand car stereo fitted that has connection to plug in your phone or MP3 player. There is dash top fitted further screen that is linked to the main car stereo via a 3.5mm jack plug, this is clever device that double up as a reverse camera that engages automatically when reserve gear is selected, but it also connects to your smart phone via bluetooth and has both Apple Car Play and Android Auto facilities so this allows you to stream music, you can also use Google maps.
The fit out comprises a bespoke 'rock and roll' bed, a full length pop top, there is various cupboard and storage. The floor has heavy duty vinyl covering and the sides are clad with both grey stretch fabric. The roof has LED lights that work via a dimmer switch. The passenger side seat is double sized and is fitted with a carousel that spins the seat around 180 degrees so it faces into the rear of the camper. The bed is very easy to convert from a bench seat in the rear to a double bed, you simply need to pull out 2 chute bolts and then the bench seat rolls forward effortlessly to form a comfortable double bed.
The 'pop top' roof is equally as easy to operate too, in this case you need to adjust open 2 ratchet type straps that secure the roof in place, then the roof raises upwards into position and this creates a further sleeping area in the newly formed roof space. There is internal roof board, which simply raises up on 2 hydraulic rams and then create the full head height camper space that makes this type of conversion so popular.
Please note that there is no sink, cooker or fridge fitted to the van, the previous owners used a coolbox for food storage and used to only cook outside. The previous owner has left a set of curtains in one of the cupboards. There are 3 types of power systems fitted
1. 12v power via a recent leisure battery located under the drivers seat (this powers both lighting and a cigar light plug and both USB & USB C sockets in the back of the van)
2. 240v power via a plug socket fitted to the offside of the van, this powers up 2 x double 'proper' 240v sockets and 2 x USB sockets which are also located in the rear of the van (this requires a cable to be connected to mains power when at home or at a campsite that offer electric hook up). There is fusebox with trip switches fitted in one of the cupboards in the rear of the van.
3. Solar power system via a 200w panel fitted to the roof and feeding into the campers leisure battery, so your battery is always being charged during daylight hours, there are 2 x USB ports in the solar charging control unit
The van is very solid underneath, she has had previous welding carried out to the sills and this will mean she ought to continue to pass her MOT for years to come from a structural point of view, the van looks to have been well maintained and she was driven to our base in Hampshire from Monmouth when she was part-exchanged. Having had the VW fully checked over in our own workshop and then test driven, we are very confident she is ready to jump in and go on some fresh adventures. The T4 Transporter is already a modern classic and certainly well loved in the camping and surfing community, the current paintwork finish (satin appearance of peachy/orange) and contrasting black wheels/tinted glass and VW decals/strips etc really do set her off as a cool camper. There are a few areas of minor surface rust on the wheel arches (this IS minor, but worth a mention), the paintwork on the front and rear bumpers has some flaking in areas. However for a van that is 32 years old, she is doing rather well and she does drive ever so well. No doubt in time the value of these old campers will raise as they always seem to, so buying a good solid van that is suited to what you plan to use her for is key. You will love the way this one drives and just how easy it is to set up the bed and raise the roof at night.
