Description
A lovely set of of 2 over 2 chest of drawers. They bear the mark of 'Cobay Brother Ltd - Hythe' (Kent). The drawers are very well made and beautifully crafted - I am no expert so do not know what wood they are made from. I have done a little research into the Cobay brothers but there is not alot of information out there other than they were a well known furniture and cabinet maker in the Hythe, Kent area in the 19th and early 20th Century. The last surviving brother died in 1924.
I can't confirm the age of these drawers but obviously before 1924 as production stopped on the death of the last Cobay brother.
Structurally the drawers are very sound and in excellent condition. The only part that will need some TLC is the top as there are marks on the surface and a difference in colour where at some point either a mirror or trinket drawers have stood on either side of the top at the back. Other than that a good clean and polish will be enough.
I do not have the key for the drawers.
Drawers measure 21 inches/53cm by 42 inches/106cm and are 31 inches/70cm high.
