Our 2023 Transparency Report reveals our laser focus on trust and safety is working. Over 99% of the listings on Gumtree are without issue
Gumtree enables millions of people to find what they need locally at a great price. In 2023, our vibrant community posted one listing a second and sent over 133 million messages. Thanks to our improved safety infrastructure, users could easily access the second-hand for sale market and local services under our protection.
The Transparency Report reveals that illegal activity on our platform hit an all-time low in 2023. Just 0.02% of listings were reported to our Help Desk for fraudulent or bad practice.
New safety features enabled our dedicated Trust and Safety team to take swift action against listings that did not meet our strict posting policies and ban users seeking to cause harm.

Supporting the UK Government’s national fraud campaign
In addition to our extensive guides and advice in our lifestyle hub, we are proud to support the UK Government’s national campaign against fraud, Stop! Think Fraud.
Fraud accounts for 40% of all crime in England and Wales. In 2023, 1 in 17 adults were a victim of fraud. Knowing how to spot a scam and how to protect yourself is vital to staying safe when going online. Find more details about the campaign here.
What to do if you are suspicious of a listing or buyer
We work closely with our community of users and make it easy to report suspicious behaviour. Firstly, click the ‘Report’ button on the listing / message in question. The content will then be reviewed by our dedicated trust and safety team within a few hours. Our Help Desk is on hand 24/7 if you need further support and FAQs are available on our safety pages.
All instances of fraud should be reported to Action Fraud. We are a close partner of Action Fraud and the City of London police and support them with details needed for investigations.
