While the overwhelming majority of listings and messages continued to be trustworthy, our 2022 Transparency Report demonstrates our increased capabilities to stop harmful activities from taking place on the platform.
Maintaining the trust and safety of Gumtree’s community is at the heart of our work. We updated our safety infrastructure throughout 2022 and removed 6.32% of listings from the platform. This was up from 3.99% the previous year. Swift action was taken against listings that fell outside our rigorous Policies and Code of Conduct to keep our thriving community safe.
Our dedicated Trust and Safety team and advanced automated systems stopped 3.6 million spam messages. We also stopped more than double the number of spam listings in our For Sale category on the previous year. The team banned nearly 250,000 devices, email addresses, domain names and phone numbers associated with accounts that broke our Community Guidelines. In addition, our community was also more involved in stopping bad practices. Users flagged more than 120,000 listings using our designated Report button or contacting the Gumtree Help Desk.
We are committed to promoting positive behaviour on Gumtree. This include continuous education on buying and selling safely online to investment in industry-leading safety tools. We also work with external partners to learn from their expertise.
