Job Advert: 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant - Primary School, Penwortham

Position: 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: Penwortham

Contract: Full‑time, term‑time only

Start Date: As soon as possible

Salary: Dependent on experience and school pay scale

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated and skilled 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to support a primary-aged child with severe and complex special educational needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to a pupil who requires consistent, personalised support to access learning and thrive within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide one-to-one support throughout the school day

Implement individualised learning plans created by the SENCo and class teacher

Use Widget/Widgit symbols and visual supports consistently to aid communication, reduce anxiety, and structure daily routines

Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies

Liaise closely with teachers, SENCo, and external professionals

Assist with personal care, mobility, and sensory needs where required

Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning space tailored to the child's needs

Essential Requirements

Experience using Widget/Widgit visual communication systems (this is a mandatory requirement for this role)

Experience supporting children with severe or complex SEND

A calm, patient, and resilient approach

Ability to work collaboratively with the wider SEND team

Excellent communication skills

A genuine desire to support children with additional needs

Desirable Skills

Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, SEND training)

Experience with communication aids, structured visual timetables, sensory integration, or behaviour support frameworks
