SEND Science Tutor – Somerset
Location: Somerset
Phase: Secondary / SEND
Working arrangement: In–person
Quantum Scholars is looking for a supportive, patient and experienced SEND Science Tutor to work with children and young people across Somerset. This is an in–person tutoring role and is not online work.
The role will involve providing personalised Science tuition to students who may have additional learning needs and benefit from a flexible, individualised approach to education. You will be expected to build positive and trusting relationships with students, adapt your teaching to meet their individual needs and help develop their confidence, engagement and progress in Science.
The successful tutor will be able to create engaging and accessible lessons while remaining flexible to each student's pace, interests and learning needs. Experience working with young people with SEND, SEMH needs or those who have found mainstream education challenging would be particularly beneficial.
The role may involve
Delivering one–to–one or small–group Science tuitionSupporting students with areas of the Science curriculum appropriate to their age and abilityPlanning engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging learning activitiesAdapting teaching approaches to suit different abilities, learning needs and levels of engagementHelping students develop confidence and a positive attitude towards ScienceSupporting students to develop independent learning and study skillsHelping students re–engage with education in a positive and meaningful wayMonitoring progress and providing appropriate feedbackBuilding positive, consistent and trusting relationships with studentsWorking collaboratively with parents, carers and relevant professionals where requiredMaintaining clear and professional communicationFollowing safeguarding procedures at all timesEssential requirements
Experience teaching or tutoring Science to children or young peopleExperience working with students with SEND and/or SEMH needsA good understanding of the secondary Science curriculumExperience delivering one–to–one or personalised educational support is desirableThe ability to plan and deliver engaging, personalised learningStrong communication, organisation and relationship–building skillsA patient, calm, flexible and supportive approachThe ability to adapt teaching to meet individual learning needsA genuine commitment to supporting young people to achieve their potentialA commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young peopleWillingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check, where requiredSatisfactory professional referencesYou must have the right to work in the UK.Quantum Scholars is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
