Description

SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Islington, N7

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm (term-time only)

Pay: £105–£110 per day

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive SEN primary school in Islington, which caters for children with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and/or autism (ASC).

Our school has a total of 124 students, with small classes of 8–11 children, each led by a qualified teacher and supported by at least 3 teaching assistants. This excellent staff-to-student ratio ensures every child receives the specialist support they need.

We believe both staff and students should have fun every day. Learning at our school is exciting, engaging, and balanced between classroom-based lessons and movement-based activities. Lessons are kept short (around 20 minutes) and are followed by sensory breaks in our specialist facilities, including a sensory integration room and a heated hydrotherapy pool.

Roles & Responsibilities

* Support pupils with severe learning difficulties and/or autism in accessing learning and daily activities.

* Assist with communication development, using visual aids, PECS, and Makaton.

* Work alongside the class teacher and other TAs to deliver engaging, inclusive lessons.

* Encourage social, emotional, and academic development in line with individual needs.

* Promote independence while providing a safe, positive, and stimulating environment.

* Support pupils with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).

* Help implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.

* Supervise and engage pupils in movement-based activities and sensory play.

Requirements

* Previous experience working with SEN children (SLD and/or autism essential).

* Strong understanding of strategies to support SLCN (visual aids, Makaton, PECS).

* A positive, patient, and caring approach with a passion for supporting children.

* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

* Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to apply).

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a warm, inclusive school where every day is rewarding and different. If you are passionate about making a difference and enjoy working in a fun, supportive environment, we’d love to hear from you.
