Description

Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Islington, N7

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm (term-time only)

Pay: £105–£110 per day

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our secondary SEN school in Islington, supporting pupils from Year 7 through to Year 14 with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and/or autism (ASC).

Our school currently has 123 students on roll, with small class sizes led by a teacher and supported by a strong team of teaching assistants. This structure ensures a fantastic staff-to-student ratio and allows us to deliver truly personalised support.

All of our students leave with an ASDAN qualification in Personal Progress alongside other accreditations, preparing them for life beyond school. Students progress on to Further Education Providers or Social Care Providers, with the confidence and independence they’ve built during their time with us.

Our Approach

As pupils move through secondary and post-16, our curriculum increasingly focuses on:

* Preparation for adulthood – building independence and life skills.

* Accreditation pathways – ensuring access to qualifications.

* Community and belonging – encouraging students to contribute positively to society.

* Strength-based learning – nurturing each pupil’s interests while supporting them in overcoming barriers.

Roles & Responsibilities

* Support students with SLD and/or autism in accessing learning and daily routines.

* Assist with communication development, using visual aids, PECS, and Makaton.

* Work collaboratively with teachers and other TAs to deliver engaging and inclusive lessons.

* Encourage independence, confidence, and social skills in line with individual goals.

* Support pupils with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).

* Help implement education, behaviour, and transition support plans.

* Engage students in both classroom-based and community-based learning activities.

Requirements

* Experience working with SEN students (SLD and/or autism essential).

* Knowledge of strategies to support SLCN (visual aids, Makaton, PECS).

* Patient, positive, and adaptable with a genuine passion for supporting young people.

* Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in helping young people prepare for life beyond school. If you are passionate about SEN and want to make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.
