We’re working with a respected specialist education provider that delivers personalised learning programmes for young people aged 14–19 with a range of complex needs and behaviours. Every programme is built around the individual learner, with a focus on supporting both academic and vocational progress.

The aim is to equip each student with the skills and confidence to transition successfully into further education, apprenticeships, or employment.

We’re currently looking for a passionate and experienced Functional Skills Teacher to join this dedicated team and help learners achieve their full potential. This role is a permanet part time role working 18.5 hours per week.

About the Role

As a Functional Skills Teacher, you will deliver high-quality lessons in Maths, English, and Digital Functional Skills from Entry Level to Level 2. The role is much more than classroom teaching — it’s about creating an inclusive, aspirational learning environment where every learner is seen, supported, and challenged to succeed.

You’ll be working within a supportive and specialist team who are committed to making a lasting difference for students who have struggled in mainstream settings.

Key Responsibilities

* Teach Functional Skills Maths and English (Entry Level to Level 2) and Digital Functional Skills (EL3 and L1)

* Plan and deliver creative, individualised lessons tailored to the needs and interests of each learner

* Build strong relationships with learners to foster trust, confidence, and engagement

* Maintain regular communication with parents and carers, ensuring they are fully involved in each learner’s progress

* Create a classroom culture that reflects respect, inclusion, and high expectations

* Support learners to achieve positive outcomes across all subjects

* Contribute to a safe and supportive environment where diversity is recognised and celebrated

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

* Recognised teaching qualification (such as PGCE, CertEd, or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training)

Experience

* Experience teaching Functional Skills with a proven ability to plan and deliver effective lessons

* Experience working with young people with behavioural challenges or additional learning needs

* Strong classroom and behaviour management skills, especially in specialist or alternative settings

* A commitment to inclusive education and an understanding of trauma-informed approaches
