About this child/client Oscar, 22, is a bright, engaging and determined young man with a wide range of interests including cycling, languages (especially French), piano, reading and socialising. Oscar has cerebral palsy and requires full support for daily living. He is a wheelchair user and non-verbal. Following recent spinal surgery at C3 level, he currently has very limited movement from the neck down, increasing his care needs significantly. Oscar is transitioning to communication via head switches and has a PEG for nutritional support when required. Although early in recovery, Oscar and his family remain hopeful for progress. He is cognitively very aware and continues to engage with those around him.
Overview of role As Oscar’s Support Worker, you will provide full personal care, support communication, and ensure he remains comfortable, engaged and supported throughout the day. Oscar is currently more passively involved, so your role focuses on facilitating meaningful interaction, promoting wellbeing, and adapting activities to suit his current abilities. You will work 1:1 in the family home, sometimes alongside another Support Worker for outings, holidays or additional support. Extra hours and an additional Saturday each month may be available. Full training in all areas of Oscar’s care, including clinical and communication needs, is provided, alongside ongoing support from the Team Leader and family. Rates are £16.00 weekdays and £18.00 weekends, increasing after six months to £17.00 weekdays and £19.00 weekends.
Who this role would suit A compassionate, resilient and proactive candidate able to step confidently into an evolving role. You must work independently, respond flexibly, and offer a calm, reassuring presence during this important period of change. Confidence and consistency are key, as Oscar responds strongly to reassurance and stability. The family is committed to training and development and seeks someone equally committed long-term.
What’s great about this job is the excellent training and a warm, supportive working environment. This is a highly rewarding role where you can make a meaningful difference at an important stage in Oscar’s life. Flexible shift patterns are available where possible. A £500.00 loyalty bonus is offered after twelve months of service.
