Description
Support Worker in Keston, BR2. A wonderful Monday to Friday opportunity supporting a sociable 14-year-old young lady with cerebral palsy who loves beauty and pampering. £18.00 gross per hour.
Nearest Station: Orpington
Salary/Wage: £18.00 gross per hour (weekdays) | £20.00 gross per hour (any weekends worked)
Driving Requirements: Driver required to drive an automatic Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV)
Essential: Childcare experience, clear spoken English, genuine passion for supporting children/young people with additional needs. Female applicants only. Must live locally due to split shifts in term time
Desirable: Disability experience, Level 2 Certificate in Social Care. PEG feeding and confident hoist use (or willingness to undertake training)
Start Date: ASAP
Days & Hours: Term-time: 7.00am–10.00am, then 2.30pm–7.00pm, School Holidays: 10.00am–5.00pm or 6.00pm

About the Client/Child: Lucy (14) is a sociable, smiley young lady who enjoys cinema trips, swimming/hydrotherapy, arts and crafts, baking, Disney, Barbie and especially beauty and pampering. She lives with her parents and two younger brothers. Lucy has cerebral palsy and developmental delay and requires adult support for all care needs. She is a wheelchair user in a fully adapted home with hoists. Lucy is PEG fed with a blended diet and has epilepsy, which is managed with medication. She can experience panic attacks and benefits from reassurance. Lucy communicates through eye-pointing, facial expressions and vocalisations.
The Role at a Glance: You will support Lucy with all aspects of daily living and healthcare, including personal care. During term time, you will assist with school runs, either driving the WAV or supporting Lucy in the vehicle. After school and during holidays, you will help deliver therapy programmes, support activities, and ensure Lucy’s time is fun and engaging. Support is provided on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis alongside another team member or parent. Occasionally, you may supervise Lucy’s brothers if parents need to focus on her care. The family would also like support on short UK or overseas holidays. Occasional weekend shifts (8.00am–6.00pm) may be available.
This Job Would Suit: A nurturing, reliable and sociable *female Support Worker who enjoys working within a family home. This role suits someone with childcare or disability experience who values consistency, confidentiality and quality care. Clear spoken English is essential to support Lucy’s communication.
