I am looking for a kind, reliable and trustworthy person to provide companionship and support to a lovely gentlemen living with Alzheimer’s in his own home. I would love to have some respite from my role of wife/full time carer.

This is not a personal care role and there is not any hoisting/transfer support as an agency visits four times a day to meet to all personal care needs. Therefore, your role would be to simply be there in the home ensuring that my husband remains safe and comfortable throughout the day. This will involve completing tasks like preparing simple drinks/snacks/meals and feeding these to my husband and keeping the home ticking over whilst I am gone. For example; keeping on top of washing up, putting on wash loads on and hanging out to dry.

My husband cannot communicate verbally and is either lying in a bed or sitting in a chair. He also has a very calm and gentle nature so he is not challenging to care for. He has a love of food and a sweet tooth to match! He’s a bit of a chocoholic! He was once a patisserie chef so if you fancy baking a cake whist at work and sharing this with him during afternoon tea he would get pleasure out of the eating part!

The work would be ‘as and when’ needed. I would like to visit friends in London and be away from the house for a day, a 24 hour period or longer once the Personal Assistant feels comfortable in their role. It is important to me that the Personal Assistant has knowledge of first aid and able to act in an emergency (should the case arise) so that I can have time away from home without worrying too much. I would like to find somebody who I could book in respite support at both our convenience.

- Medication prompting/administering

- Personal grooming

- Eating and drinking assistance

- Other relevant duties as required

- Companionship

Candidate qualities:

- Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality

- Reliable with good timekeeping

- Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative

- Hygienic, tidy and well organised

- Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties

- Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills

- Honest and cheerful

- Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard

- Able to always work to high standards of health & safety

Non-smoker due to medical reasons
