We are looking for a warm, reliable Personal Assistants to support a gentle, easy-going 22-year-old man with complex needs, both at home and out in the community.

He enjoys trips along the being out and about in the fresh air, walks along the seafront, ice cream, the wind blowing in the trees or relaxing at home with sensory lights and films.

He has complex health and mobility needs so requires full support with all aspects of daily life.

There is no challenging behaviour — quite the opposite. He is calm, rewarding to support, and responds well to people who are kind, consistent, and genuinely invested in building a relationship rather than simply completing tasks.

Full training will be provided.

What the role involves:

- Personal care & mobility

- Supporting all aspects of personal care, including washing, dressing, and toileting. - Assisting with safe moving and handling using hoists and mobility equipment.

- Accompanying him on outings using a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.

NG tube care (full training provided)

Duties include administering feeds and medication, carrying out flushes and equipment checks, monitoring comfort, and keeping accurate records.

Engagement & quality of life

Supporting him to enjoy the things he loves — outings, sensory activities, films, and time in the community. Being good company and a positive, dependable presence.

Household support

Light household tasks to help things run smoothly, such as laundry, tidying and some cleaning.

Teamwork & communication

Working as part of a 2:1 support team, following detailed care plans, recording information accurately, and communicating well with fellow PAs and the family.

What we’re looking for:

- Warm, patient, and genuinely caring

- Calm, dependable, and trustworthy

- Good attention to detail, especially when following care plans

- Strong communication skills

- Physically able to support full mobility needs

- Flexible for evenings, weekends, and occasional cover shifts

- Desirable but not essential: Full UK driving licence to use a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.

Training & support

Full training is provided in NG tube care, moving and handling, and all required clinical tasks. You will be signed off as competent before working independently and will receive ongoing support and supervision.

What you’ll receive:

- Competitive hourly rate

- Paid holiday entitlement

- Enhanced bank holiday pay

- Full training and ongoing development

- A stable, rewarding role in a welcoming family-led environment

-

Duties include:

- Medication prompting/administering

- Eating and drinking assistance

- Moving and handling

- Clinical tasks

- Other relevant duties as required

- Dressing / undressing

- Bathroom assistance

Candidate qualities:

- Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality

- Reliable with good timekeeping

- Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative

- Hygienic, tidy and well organised

- Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties

- Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills

- Honest and cheerful

- Creative

- Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard

- Able to always work to high standards of health & safety

Additional requirements

- Non-smoker due to medical reasons

- Vulnerable to the risk of infection and disease transmission

Notes:

All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required.

If you are successful in your application for this position, you will be either engaged directly or employed by the individual employer and not by Independent Lives. The role may be offered on an employed or self-employed basis, depending on the suitability and agreement with the employer. If the role is employed, you will be entitled to holiday pay and issued an employment contract.

Please note: If you do not hear back within three weeks of applying, unfortunately your application has not been successful on this occasion.
