Hambleton Farms, an independent owner-run retail food business, are looking for Retail Assistants to join the team at our brand-new location at Scotsdales Garden Centre in Great Shelford (opening September 2025). Our business has grown significantly over the last 18 years, we have become a multi-award-winning operation, with an enthusiastic and dedicated team of employees, working across 3 (soon to be 4!) retail locations.

Our delis are packed with a large selection of handmade pies, cooked meats, scotch eggs, olives and charcuterie. Our cheese counters are stocked with local, national and internationally sourced cheeses from only the finest producers. Our traditionally trained Butchers serve only the finest cuts of beef, lamb, pork, poultry and game. Our customers really are spoilt for choice!

This role will require a mixture of serving customers, assisting with the production of delicious handmade products and back filling counters with fresh product.

As Retail Assistant here at Hambleton Farms you will:

Work with the Butchery and Deli teams to set the store up on a daily basis.

Assist in making our seasonal range of ‘meal solutions.’

Deliver an outstanding experience to all customers.

Ensure self-serve displays in chillers are attractive and shoppable

Practice necessary due diligence – health and safety, food safety etc.

Stock control.

Retail Assistants interested in broadening their skills, and learning butchery / knife skills, would be encouraged to develop into Butchery Assistant / Butchery roles.

Here at Hambleton Farms, we are looking for a Retail Assistant with:

A passion for food

Excellent customer service and sales skills

Good communication skills at all levels

Honest, reliable and dedicated

Previous experience in a Retail, Counter Assistant, Customer Service, Retail Assistant, Cook or Chef role would be advantageous.

30-47.5-hour contracts available - Working hours between 08:30-17:30, with 30 minutes for lunch - some overtime available at weekends, school holidays, and bank holidays. Applicants must work at least 1 of 2 weekend days.

In return for meeting the above criteria the successful candidate will be rewarded with a competitive hourly rate in the region of £8.60-£13.50 per hour (remuneration dependant on skills and experience). As well as this you will be part of the staff in-store discount scheme, company pension scheme and Death in service insurance scheme. Uniform and full training provided.
