Description
Framed and glazed print by Scottish artist James Kay RSA RSW (1858-1962) 'The Seine at Paris - Pont Alexandre III'
Kay was best known for his depictions of landscapes and shipping docks on the River Clyde near Glasgow. His works were strongly influenced by Impressionism, but he maintained a distinctive thick application of paint and an idiosyncratic use of color. Born on October 22, 1858 on the Isle on Arran, Scotland, UK, he went on to study at the Glasgow School of Art. Kay began exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1894 and won the gold medal at the Salon in 1903 for his painting River of the North. Kay was an elected member of both the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolor. Today, his works are in the collections of the Leeds Art Gallery, the Dundee Art Gallery and Museum Collection, the Hunterian Art Gallery at the University of Glasgow, and the Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museum, among others. Kay died on September 26, 1942 in Portincaple, Scotland, UK.
The frame measures 26 x 20 inches, the print 16.5 x 14 inches.
