With us at RFH Classics we have this charming 1968 (G) Morris Minor 1000 De-Luxe 2 Dr Saloon finished in the period Trafalgar Blue with matching Blue Vinyl trim. A recent part exchange arrival, this is a very honest example that remains nicely presentable but with a little more patina than we traditionally offer, which we have reflected in the price. Perhaps most importantly is does however offer the unmistakable charm of a Minor that has clearly been enjoyed, respected and routinely used.

The previous keeper owned the car for just over two years and regularly used it for long coastal trips and days out as they did not have another car with him assuring us that it never once missed a beat during his ownership. Having now compiled the accompanying history folder, we are pleased to report that the car benefitted from an extensive restoration in 2013/14 with two invoices alone totalling £9,700, complemented by a further £1,300 of expenditure in both 2014 and 2021. Since that restoration work the car has covered fewer than 3,000 miles with the majority of which have been enjoyed over the past two years.

The interior of the car is in very good order with the Blue Vinyl seat covers showing very little wear and the carpet set, in contrasting Blue, is also in lovely order. The door cards have some age related marks but overall the interior is very useable condition. Under the bonnet the 1098cc 4 cylinder petrol engine is paired to a manual 4 speed gearbox. The car starts very well with minimal choke required even on these cold morning and quickly settle down to tick over very smoothly. We have taken the car for a drive and all the gears operate well with no crunching on changes and no sign or smell of any oil burning.

Supporting paperwork includes a substantial run of old MOT tests dating back to 1987, when the car showed 52,195 miles giving a strong indication that the mileage may well be genuine although, as with most classics of this age, we cannot guarantee this. The history file also contains a wonderful period copy of the original sales invoice from Onslow Motors of New Malden, confirming the car was supplied new to a Mr Elliott of Morden, Surrey for the princely sum of £751. Notably, this invoice includes the factory fitted seat belts and the wing mounted mirror that pleasingly remains fitted today, a delightful touch of history rarely seen.

Mechanically the car appears sound and was driven to us as part of the exchange. While not the fastest car on the road, it performed exactly as a well sorted Minor should, happily keeping pace with M25 traffic and providing that familiar, endearing driving experience these cars are known for. A very usable and well-documented Morris Minor with a charming backstory, significant past expenditure and bags of character that is ready for its next custodian to preserve, enjoy and personalise.
