Machine Operator Location: Poole, Dorset

Job Type: Permanent

Salary: GBP15.88 per hour including shift allowance

Hours: Average 42 hours per week

We are recruiting for a Permanent Machine Operator to join a well–established global food packaging manufacturer based in Poole, Dorset.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is technically minded and enjoys working with production machinery. You will join a busy manufacturing team responsible for operating and monitoring extrusion equipment, with full training provided.

Training & Shift Pattern You will initially work Monday to Friday, 8.00am – 4.00pm during your training period.

Once trained, you will move onto a rotating 2 weeks of days followed by 2 weeks of nights:

Week 1 – Days (6am–6pm): Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday

Week 2 – Days (6am–6pm): Wednesday & Thursday

Week 3 – Nights (6pm–6am): Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday

Week 4 – Nights (6pm–6am): Wednesday & Thursday

The four–week pattern then repeats.

Sunday is counted as the first day of the working week, resulting in 48 paid hours in the first week and 36 hours in the second, averaging 42 hours per week.

The Role Working within the extrusion department, you will be responsible for operating production equipment safely and efficiently whilst ensuring finished materials meet the required specifications.

Your duties will include:

Starting up and monitoring extrusion machinery.

Working to production targets and quality standards.

Checking, measuring and recording product specifications.

Taking product samples in accordance with procedures.

Assisting with dismantling and cleaning production equipment.

Processing and grinding production scrap.

Moving finished materials to the appropriate storage locations.

Assisting with stocktaking.

Maintaining excellent housekeeping and Health & Safety standards.

The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who:

Is technically minded with an interest in manufacturing machinery.

Can work accurately to production procedures and deadlines.

Has good communication and problem–solving skills.

Is comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.

Has a good understanding of workplace Health & Safety.

Is reliable and comfortable working the rotating day and night shift pattern.

Previous extrusion or machine operating experience would be advantageous, but full training will be provided.

Reach and Counterbalance Forklift licences would also be advantageous but are not essential.

Benefits GBP15.88 per hour including shift allowance.
