Assembly Operator

Location: Ilminster, Somerset

Pay Rate: £13.31 – £15.78 per hour

Contract: Temporary, with the potential to become permanent after 12 weeks

Working Hours:

Monday to Thursday: 08:00 – 16:30

Friday: 08:00 – 15:00

The Opportunity

Interaction Recruitment is looking for an experienced Assembly Operator to join a specialist manufacturing team based in Ilminster.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in manufacturing, production or assembly who takes pride in precision, quality and attention to detail.

You will be part of a small team responsible for assembling specialist optical products, including periscopes and opto-mechanical sights used in armoured vehicles. Full adherence to manufacturing procedures, quality standards and health and safety requirements is essential.

The role is initially temporary, with the potential to become permanent after 12 weeks for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

Set up and operate production equipment in line with standard operating procedures.

Assemble periscopes and optical components.

Mix adhesives and prepare metal surfaces for optical bonding.

Bond optical surfaces, substrates and laser protection filters.

Position optical sub-assemblies to the correct orientation.

Inspect optical components and metalwork to ensure they meet required specifications.

Carry out quality inspections on selected parts.

Identify and report non-conforming parts in line with company procedures.

Complete production records, history cards and other required documentation.

Pack finished products ready for the next production stage or despatch.

Maintain clean and organised equipment and work areas.

Support continuous improvement activities to improve efficiency and productivity.

Work collaboratively within a small team, providing support and cover when required.

Maintain high standards of quality, output and workplace safety.

What We’re Looking For

Previous experience in a manufacturing, production or assembly environment.

Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

Ability to follow detailed written instructions and manufacturing procedures.

A practical, methodical and organised approach to work.

Ability to work effectively as part of a small team.

A strong awareness of health and safety requirements.
