Description

Job Purpose

The Shift Manager is responsible for leading and managing all warehouse operations during the late shift, ensuring customer orders are processed accurately, productivity targets are achieved, and all activities are carried out safely and efficiently.

Managing a team of approximately warehouse associates, the role oversees all warehouse functions including Goods In, Putaway, Replenishment, Picking, Packing, Dispatch, Stock Control, and Returns. The successful candidate will drive operational performance, maintain high service standards, and promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

Lead the day–to–day running of the late shift warehouse operation, ensuring customer orders are picked, packed, and dispatched accurately and on time. Monitor workflow across all operational areas, allocate labour effectively, resolve operational issues quickly, and ensure productivity, quality, and service level targets are consistently achieved.

Leadership

Provide strong leadership to a team of warehouse associates, supporting Team Leaders and Supervisors to deliver high performance. Conduct regular team briefings, manage performance and attendance, support recruitment and training, and foster a positive, engaged working environment.

Health & Safety

Champion a strong health and safety culture by ensuring compliance with company policies and legislation. Carry out safety audits, support risk assessments and accident investigations where required, and ensure all employees are trained to operate equipment safely.

Inventory & Performance

Maintain high levels of stock accuracy through effective inventory control, cycle counting, and investigation of discrepancies. Analyse operational KPIs to identify opportunities for improvement, reduce errors and waste, and implement best practice and continuous improvement initiatives across the warehouse.

Compliance & Reporting

Ensure all warehouse activities meet company procedures, customer requirements, and regulatory standards. Complete shift reporting, communicate operational performance to senior management, and manage labour planning to maximise efficiency and control costs.

Key Performance Measures

Success in the role will be measured through operational performance, including on–time dispatch, productivity, picking accuracy, stock accuracy, labour utilisation, health and safety compliance, employee engagement, and customer service performance.

Skills & Experience

Essential

Previous experience in a Shift Manager, Operations Manager, or Senior Warehouse Supervisor role. Experience managing teams of 40+ employees within a fast–paced warehouse environment. Strong leadership, organisational, and people management skills. Experience managing operational KPIs and service targets. Good working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). Strong problem–solving and decision–making abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Desirable

Experience within e–commerce, retail, logistics, or 3PL operations. Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience. IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent Health & Safety qualification. FLT licence or a good understanding of material handling equipment (MHE). About You
