Core description

Tailor the following naturally to each location:

Block Deployment is recruiting locally based IT Field Engineers to support a large UK retail technology rollout. Engineers will visit retail stores in their local area and complete structured technology health checks, troubleshooting and remediation.

We are deliberately recruiting engineers who already live close to our routes. Engineers will be allocated work based primarily on their home postcode and will not routinely be expected to travel long distances into another region.

Responsibilities

Include:

Visiting allocated retail stores in the local area
Checking routers, cameras and associated technology
Diagnosing basic connectivity and hardware issues
Reconfiguring equipment where required
Working with configuration files and device information
Recording SIM, IMEI and serial-number information
Replacing, reconnecting or resetting equipment where required
Testing and validating equipment after changes
Using a laptop and online systems during visits
Recording visit outcomes accurately
Capturing evidence of completed work
Speaking professionally with store teams
Escalating more complex technical issues through a defined support process

Candidate profile

Explain that we are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of:

IT support
Field engineering / field service
Desktop or onsite support
Networking
Telecoms
CCTV / security systems
EPOS / retail technology
Hardware installation
Smart-hands / onsite technical support

Formal qualifications are not essential, but candidates should already be comfortable troubleshooting technology.

Required characteristics:

Reliable and punctual
Comfortable working independently
Comfortable using a laptop and smartphone
Able to follow a detailed technical process
Good basic troubleshooting skills
Accurate when recording technical information
Professional when interacting with retail store teams
Organised enough to complete multiple visits in a day

For these regional routes, state that a full driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle are strongly preferred.

Training

Explain that Block Deployment provides project-specific training on the equipment, workflow, reporting and escalation process before engineers begin independent visits.

Do not imply that the training is intended to teach someone IT from scratch.
