Job Title: Registered Manager – Children's Residential Care

Location: Birmingham, B36

Salary: 45,000 per annum

Hours: Full–time, 40 hours per week

Service Type: 3–bed Children's Residential Care Home (Ages 8–18)

Overview

We are seeking a highly qualified, experienced, and compassionate Registered Manager to lead a children's residential care home in Birmingham. This is a pivotal leadership role where you will oversee the day–to–day operations of a 3–bed service supporting children and young people aged 8–18 years.

You will lead the home with passion, professionalism, and a child–centred approach, ensuring the highest standards of care, full Ofsted compliance, and positive outcomes for children and young people. You will also be responsible for building, developing, and motivating a skilled and values–led staff team.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

Manage the daily operations of the home, ensuring high–quality, safe, and consistent care delivery.Provide strong, visible leadership and foster a positive, supportive, and professional team culture.Lead, mentor, and inspire the care team to deliver exceptional, child–centred care using DDP and the PACE model.Ensure effective staffing, supervision, appraisals, training, and rota management.Care & Outcomes

Develop, implement, and regularly review individualised care plans that reflect the needs, risks, and aspirations of each child.Promote positive relationships, emotional regulation, and trauma–informed practice.Build and maintain strong relationships with children, families, and carers to support stability and positive outcomes.Liaise effectively with social workers, healthcare professionals, education providers, and external agencies to coordinate comprehensive care delivery.Compliance & Safeguarding

Ensure full compliance with Ofsted regulations, Children's Homes Regulations, Quality Standards, and safeguarding legislation.Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns and incidents.Carry out Regulation 45 Quality of Care Reviews and implement service improvements.Oversee medication administration in line with healthcare regulations and best practice.Governance & Administration

Maintain accurate, timely, and professional records relating to children, staff, and service operations.Ensure policies, procedures, and risk assessments are up to date and implemented effectively.Monitor health & safety, fire safety, and environmental standards within the home.Prepare the service for inspections and ensure ongoing inspection readiness.

Essential Skills & Experience

Minimum of 2 years' experience working in a children's residential care home within the past 5 years.At least 1 year's proven experience in a senior leadership or management role supervising staff in a care setting.Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards).Strong working knowledge of Ofsted regulations, safeguarding procedures, and children's residential legislation.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, families, and professionals.Strong organisational, leadership, and decision–making skills.Ability to develop detailed care plans and manage competing priorities.A genuine passion for improving the lives of children and young people.

Desirable

Experience managing a small or start–up children's home.Strong understanding of trauma–informed practice, attachment theory, and therapeutic care models.
