Description
As it says, this is a late 1968 or early 1969 Gibson ES-335 TDC (Thinline Dual-Pickup in Cherry Red).
The finish is a deep cherry red and the binding has uniformly turned custard yellow as a result of being stored in its case for a significant chunk of its life so UV light hasn’t been able to wash it out/sun bleach it.
The bridge has been swapped from the trapeze style to the more dependable and adjustable hard-tail tune-o-matic type bridge.
One tuning peg has been replaced with another of the same pattern (B string).
It has its original T-top humbucker pickups which have been rewound. If you haven’t heard these, they generally sound slightly hotter than your usual PAF pattern humbucker.
The neck has been re-profiled to have a less pronounced volute and has a skinny style nut. The neck has a thin, fast feel to it overall, which is something I generally haven’t found among others of its ilk.
A coil split switch was once installed and then later uninstalled, the hole plugged and the wiring harness reverted to the original setup.
As far as I am told, the work was done professionally in the late 70s in the US, then reverted in the early 80s and brought over to the UK by the most recent owner who gigged it for the next 20 years and then stored it in its case for the last 15/20 years.
The case is all original, has its original lining and even has its original case feet.
I can disclose the serial and my correspondence with Gibson regarding the year of manufacture upon request!
Overall this guitar has some cosmetic dings and dents from a life-well lived and is in a great condition. A real players type of instrument.
If you want to try this guitar out, reach out!
I am also open to offers.
