I am a native British speaker, CELTA qualified (Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), BA (Hons) Newcastle University

I teach general English, and English for specific purposes including business, academic, IELTS, OET (Occupational English Test) and SELT preparation. I can help you improve your reading, writing, listening and speaking, from Beginners to Intermediate and Advanced. I also offer interview preparation, proofreading and editing for job applications and academic assignments where English is not your first language. Help with homework - all levels.

Lessons either online (via Zoom or Microsoft Teams), or face-to-face in central London.

John lives in London and is originally from Cheshire, UK. He has worked as a language trainer since 2019, following a career as a manager in health & social care during which he was responsible for training individuals and groups.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Newcastle University, UK, and a CELTA (Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Stafford House International, London. During his teaching career, John has taught English to students who speak a wide variety of languages, including Russian, Chinese, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Polish, Arabic, Spanish and Portuguese, among others.

He plans lessons for his students based on their individual needs, whether it be for beginner, intermediate, advanced or business English. He has taught students of all ages, from primary school children to adult learners. His excellent communication skills means he has a keen ear for clear pronunciation and an excellent understanding of English grammar.

John uses a range of published text books, but always starts with a thorough assessment of each learner’s needs, leading to individualised lesson plans. John develops a warm rapport with his students which results in faster learning, and positive feedback.

In addition to his native English, John is a self-taught speaker of Dutch, and he has studied classical languages.
