About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior or Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join a Local Government delivery team supporting a county council professional services contract. Based in central Gloucester, you'll help deliver a growing programme of geotechnical, highways, bridges and infrastructure schemes across the county, with a strong emphasis on practical assessment, design and proportionate risk management.
You'll be part of an established team with excellent local knowledge, supported by a wider UK network of geotechnical specialists who provide additional resource and technical expertise.
The county's varied geology, topography and highway network creates recurring challenges including slopes, embankments, retaining structures, landslips and resilience issues. The 2026/27 financial year is a key period, with increased investment in the geotechnical programme in response to the frequency and impact of geotechnical events across the region.
Key responsibilities:
Lead and contribute across all stages of geotechnical schemes: early advice, investigation planning, design, construction support and asset managementAct as technical lead on a range of geotechnical projectsDevelop and procure ground investigationsWrite and check technical deliverables (e.g., monitoring memos, desk studies, ground investigation reports)Undertake and review design/assessment calculations (e.g., piling, soil nailing, shallow foundations, earthworks)Review/check CDM documentation and support complianceSupport day–to–day project management and deliveryBuild and maintain strong client relationshipsMentor and develop junior engineers through coaching and technical training
What we're looking for:
