Highways Design Engineer

Description

I'm currently recruiting for a Highways Engineer to join a well-established civil engineering consultancy based in Northampton. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity within a growing infrastructure team working on a wide variety of residential, commercial and education projects across the UK.

The Role

You'll be supporting senior engineers on the design and delivery of highways and infrastructure schemes-from early concept work through to detailed design. The position offers exposure to roads, drainage, earthworks, and broader civil engineering elements, with involvement across technical design, drawings, calculations, and client liaison.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

Developing design solutions for highways and infrastructure projectsPreparing technical reports, calculations and design documentationSupporting project coordination, client communication and design deliveryProducing high-quality drawings and models using industry softwareCarrying out site visits and surveysEnsuring designs meet current standards, regulations and health & safety requirementsCollaborating with internal engineering and technical teams

Software Exposure

You'll have the chance to work with leading industry tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage and PDS.

What We're Looking For

Working knowledge of AutoCAD (and ideally other civil design software)Understanding of civil engineering principles, including highways and drainage designStrong communication skills and attention to detailAbility to work independently and as part of a teamFull UK driving licenceA proactive, organised and motivated approachFamiliarity with UK design standards and CDM regulations
