Description

About the Role Our client is seeking a Day Electrical Engineer to join their facilities team at a prestigious university site. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a high–profile environment, offering strong career progression and exposure to a wide range of complex electrical systems.

The successful candidate will deliver both Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance services, working collaboratively with General Maintenance Assistants and the wider facilities management team.

Key Responsibilities Maintenance & OperationsDeliver comprehensive electrical repair and maintenance services across all university buildings, plant, systems, and equipment.Carry out statutory, mandatory, planned preventative, and reactive maintenance activities.Perform fault–finding and diagnostic work to maintain system reliability and uptime.Accurately interpret technical drawings, instructions, and specifications.Safety & ComplianceEnsure all work is carried out safely and efficiently in accordance with current legislation, manufacturer guidance, and company Health & Safety procedures.Work safely in hazardous areas, confined spaces, and on contaminated equipment using appropriate PPE.Prepare plant and equipment for independent insurance inspections to ensure statutory compliance.Asset & Project SupportMaintain and update asset registers accurately.Assist with minor installation works, including task setting–out, material identification, and sourcing of tools and equipment.Conduct pre–installation inspections and assess service requirements for new or upgraded equipment.Carry out site surveys and report defects to the appropriate manager.Team & Contractor CoordinationOversee service contractors when required.Liaise with the Asset Manager regarding plant, equipment, and building fabric failures.Support colleagues by providing guidance and instruction on specific tasks.Assist with the induction and training of new starters, apprentices, and maintenance staff.Systems & AdministrationComplete daily administrative duties, ensuring accurate and timely completion of work dockets, tickets, and logbooks.Use CAFM systems, PDAs, BMS, work permit systems, and ordering platforms following appropriate training.Additional DutiesUndertake maintenance tasks outside the core electrical discipline when required.Safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, scaffolding, and associated equipment.Provide support during emergencies and participate in out–of–hours work when necessary.Qualifications & ExperienceCompleted Electrical Apprenticeship or NVQ / City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent).Knowledge and experience of emergency lighting systems and maintenance.17th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification (with willingness to obtain the 18th Edition).Basic understanding of Health & Safety regulations within construction and building maintenance environments.Skills & AttributesStrong technical knowledge of electrical systems within building maintenance environments.High attention to detail with the ability to accurately record maintenance and repair information.Competent IT skills, including the use of handheld and mobile devices for job management.Flexible, proactive, and team–oriented approach to work.
