Tower Bridge, London
£1,230
Description
Rare - Collector.
1970's Habitat red lacquer Carimate dining set.
Designed by Vico Magistretti in 1959 for the club house of the Carimate Golf Club in Lombardy.
This iconic chair was manufactured by Cassina in Italy in the 1960's then went onto be sold through Terence Conran's Habitat in the 1960's and 70's.
Made from red lacquered Beech wood with rush matting seats, this set is such a classic design the chair still exhibits in MoMA in New York today.
The chairs are in such remarkably good condition we did a little research to verify age. This is the first set we've seen in the red lacquer and we're unable to find another table anywhere online, but we've found an image of the 1972 Habitat catalogue detailing the chair and finish and a shot of the underside of the table showing fastenings consistent with the period.
We see the beech chairs more often and also the bright red chairs but these were only made in the version by Cassina, not Habitat, and are more often resprayed anyway!
Excellent condition, light signs of use to chair legs, rush seats excellent. Table top very good.
Some retailer sell the same set for £1395 with four dining chairs and matching table. Same set sold for £3100 at Christies' auction.
Pick up from London Tower Bridge or we're happy to arrange a courier at an additional cost depending on delivery postcode.
