Pertemps are delighted to be working with our public sector client to recruit for Customer Service Advisors on a temporary basis.

Role: Customer Service Advisor – Council Tax Team

Location: Edinburgh City Centre (office-based working in a call centre)

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 17:00 (36 hours)

Pay rate: £14.02 per hour

Start date: ASAP

Duration: Temporary, ongoing

About the Role

This is a great opportunity to join a busy and supportive Council Tax team at the City of Edinburgh Council, where you’ll play a key role in helping customers with enquiries, account updates and payments.

The main focus of the role is Council Tax, however you will also support the Scottish Welfare Fund by handling inbound calls, accurately taking notes and passing information to the relevant team for follow-up.

You’ll be the first point of contact for customers, providing clear information and guidance while delivering a professional and friendly service.

What You’ll Be Doing

Handling a high volume of inbound calls relating primarily to Council Tax, including customer queries about bills, payments, overpayments and account balances

Speaking with both individual residents and large business customers regarding Council Tax payments and enquiries

Taking inbound calls for the Scottish Welfare Fund, recording accurate information and passing cases to the appropriate team

Reviewing, updating and maintaining customer accounts accurately

Recording clear and detailed notes on internal systems

Providing advice and guidance in a calm, professional manner

Issuing letters and documents to customers when required

Taking overdue payments via phone

Redirecting complex queries to the appropriate teams

Supporting the team with general administrative duties

What We’re Looking For

Previous experience in a customer service or call centre role

Confidence in using computers and learning multiple new systems

Strong experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Good attention to detail and accurate data entry skills

A positive, professional approach with a genuine desire to help customers
