Description

Seasonal Housekeeper Required for Barrisdale Estate (June to October)

Barrisdale Estate, a spectacular and historic family run estate on Scotland’s West Coast, is seeking a motivated and self-reliant seasonal housekeeper to join the team for the main visitor season.

The preferred start date is 1 June 2026 or earlier, with flexibility for the right candidate. The primary contract runs through to October, with possible extension by mutual agreement.

Set at the head of Loch Hourn and surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery, Barrisdale offers a rare opportunity to live and work in one of the most remote and beautiful landscapes in the Scottish Highlands. Access to the estate is by private boat from Kinloch Hourn or Arnisdale, creating a strong sense of peace, wilderness and community.

The estate covers approximately 14,500 acres of wild and rugged land and includes a main lodge, several rental cottages and an informal campsite. Despite its remote setting, Barrisdale benefits from excellent off grid power systems and fast, reliable internet, making it a comfortable and well-connected place to live and work. The estate is run by a small, friendly and supportive team who work closely together.

The seasonal housekeeper will play a key role in supporting the busy summer season and ensuring a welcoming and high-quality experience for guests.

Key responsibilities include

Cleaning and preparing rental properties for guest arrivals and departures
Managing laundry and linen Supporting housekeeping at the Lodge when required
Monitoring household and guest supplies and restocking as needed
Assisting with guest communication and bookings where required
Shopping for household, food and guest supplies
Guest pick-ups and drop offs when required
Helping maintain high standards across all accommodation

In addition to housekeeping duties, the role will contribute to growing the estate’s rental business, with scope to think creatively about different rental models, guest offerings and ways to develop the accommodation over time. There is the option to include cooking for the Lodge if desired.

This role would suit someone who enjoys hospitality, organisation and working independently, while also being part of a close-knit team. A high standard of cleanliness, attention to detail and a flexible, practical attitude are essential. Previous housekeeping experience is strongly preferred.

A partner could also be taken along. For the right candidate, the creation of a suitable role for a partner can be discussed, depending on skills, experience and estate needs.

Accommodation is provided in a comfortable flat on the estate, overlooking Barrisdale Bay. A competitive seasonal remuneration package will be agreed, depending on experience.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK, hold a valid driving licence, and be able to provide good references. Boating experience is highly desirable.

Applications must be submitted before 01 May 2026.

If this opportunity sounds like a good fit, we would be delighted to hear from you.
