Description
My name is Umair Uddin, and I have been tutoring for over a decade, with a particular focus on English Literature at GCSE level and 11+ entrance exams.
I graduated from the University of Southampton with a degree in Law, after completing A-levels in English Literature, Biology, and Chemistry. My legal background has strengthened my analytical and essay-writing skills, which I pass on to my English students.
I pride myself in having an excellent work ethic and a willingness to help progress students to maximise their potential. I strive to make every lesson enjoyable and understand that English can be a particularly challenging subject to connect with.
A big part of my approach is also to build confidence in students. I believe giving students confidence has often been the most conducive in their achievement of higher grades. Like many tutors, I also believe in an exam based approach to learning, however I really do believe there is a lot to gain from really understanding a concept.
I am passionate about literature and have noticed that a lot of students struggle with the technical side of writing, which overshadows their own passion for reading. I therefore aim to deliver literature lessons in a way that helps them to develop into better writers, and kindles a desire to pick up books at their own will.
I also support students preparing for 11+ English, focusing on comprehension, creative writing, and building exam confidence.
