About this child/client: Jack, 19, is a thoughtful and engaging young man who enjoys cinema trips, walks, cooking and learning British Sign Language (BSL) alongside his family. Jack has a bilateral hearing impairment and uses double cochlear implants. He communicates verbally, although speech can sometimes be fast, quiet or trail off, and receives Speech and Language Therapy support. Jack lives at home with his family and would like support to build confidence, independence and explore new hobbies and activities in the community.

Overview of role: You will support Jack to safely access the community, attend activities and appointments, build independence and develop new hobbies and interests. The role involves companionship, practical support and encouragement while adapting communication to suit Jack’s needs. You will support someone using cochlear implants and be encouraged to learn BSL, formally or informally.

You will be flexible, encouraging and able to build trust while maintaining professional boundaries. Strong communication skills are essential, alongside a willingness to learn BSL.
