Vintage Banjo with case – Good Condition

Saxilby, Lincolnshire

£320

Description

A New Windsor 5 String Banjo in good condition for its year which is approximately 1930 with period case which is not in great condition but not beyond repair and also has a quirky nice drawer and embossed initials on the lid .
On the silver headstock decal it is engraved " Cathe Barker", I'm not sure if this has any significance.
This banjo has been overhauled and set up professionally by a Luthier as I was intending to use it but have found that all my time is used with mandolin and guitar and this is why I have decided to let this lovely banjo go.
Overall I think the condition is pretty good for an instrument this age, one of the pearl inlay fret markers is damaged but not affecting playing, there are wear marks on the closed back but nothing structural .
It has been set up with a lovely low action and the neck is in very good order with a beautiful patina , the velum is in very good order as are the machine heads, I'm sure you will know that the 6th tuner is spare and there are no issues with the top "G" going through the tunnel neck. The frets are in great condition and it is hard to see any wear so I can only presume it has been re-fretted at some time in it's life . The inlays apart from the one at the 10th are really nice , all the hardware around it's body is in great shape with nothing rattling , some tarnishing is visible but overall i would say this banjo has been well looked after and only the case letting it down.
The nut is in good order too and the bridge and strings hanger, also the tuners have no baggy play on the buttons and the gearing slots are not distorted as so many old gear cogs are.
whilst I am not a banjo player and only learnt a little I can appreciate a nice tone and this banjo sounds good and very comfortable to play , I know from the rear silverware it was made in Birmingham and would add a final plus that it tunes up well and has new strings which stay in tune!!
Whilst we would prefer collection I would consider posting after a bank transfer has been arranged. I will slacken the strings and ensure it has lots of bubble wrap etc. Postage estimate £15.00
I hope this description helps and would answer any further questions as best as I can.Thank you for looking and please see my other ads.
