I am a qualified Piano and Theory Teacher offering personalized lessons to students in SE London in person, and online.

I’ve been teaching students of all ages and have more than 10 years of experience. I love teaching and am committed to helping students discover and reach their full potential.

I started studying piano and theory at the age of 8. I continued my studies at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre where I received a Masters degree in electroacoustic composition. I have studied at Malmö Music Academy and Iceland Academy of Arts with ERASMUS programs, as well as taken courses from Goldsmiths University and Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.

I am also an active performing artist (artist name Hanakiv), and I do live shows frequently in UK and Europe.

I had my first student at the age of 16. I have taught piano at music schools and given private lessons for more than 10 years. I believe music lessons can be a real joy and it is very important to me that my lessons inspire students to develop a passion for it. I feel comfortable teaching all age groups. I make the lessons with the youngest students playful - I use stickers, clapping and singing games. I am comfortable teaching classical piano (ABRSM, Trinity) , pop/ rock and chord based piano, and theory up to the highest levels.
I am currently teaching students privately in London,and have taught complete beginners, teenagers aspiring to do ABRSM/ Trinity grades, grown-ups interested in learning their favourite classical or pop pieces, music producers and sound artists wanting to know more about music theory, pop/ rock piano, chord progressions etc.

I am friendly, patient and I keep the atmosphere in the classroom calm. I encourage my students to improvise, write their own songs and ask questions, and I also help with choosing the materials and picking the pieces and songs to play.

For online lessons I am using:
- Logitech webcam (above the piano for a full keyboard view)
- AKG condenser microphones (for audio quality)
- I am using professional lighting above the piano for clarity

In addition to teaching privately, I am active as an artist (Hanakiv), and composer. I am actively performing internationally (Europe, UK, Japan, US).

I've had a few piano teachers over the past few years but I've never been more happier than I have been with Johanna. I've been using Johanna since Feb 2020 but unfortunately most of our fortnightly lessons have been online due to covid, Despite this, Johanna has superbly improved my previous performances on classical pieces (JS Bach, CPE Bach, Prokofiev and Elgar). In addition during the same period, I've learnt from scratch, contemporary and pop pieces - JM Cano, Bruno Mars and Michael Nyman) I have progressed from an advanced beginner student to an intermediate one which would not have been possible without Johanna's patience, support, guidance, teaching methods and techniques. I firmly believe that Johanna really wants the best for her students (regardless of their ability) and she definately know how to bring this out of them

Johanna was easy to get along with. She was happy to work at the speed i chose and on the music i wanted to. The way she blended technique exercises with practical tricks to help my overall sound was incredible. I regularly have lessons with her now. Even online she’s really good at reading what I’m struggling with and helps find creative ways and new techniques to figure it out things i see as blocks. Her approach to teaching music theory was gentle, in an encouraging way. Johanna really listens and helps individuals develop a personal sound.

Johanna is an excellent Piano teacher, very patient and encouraging. I'm an adult learning to play the piano, I have had a few teachers in the past but Johanna is by far my favourite. Very attentive and excellent at Piano and teaching. Highly recommended.

Back in my school days i used to go to music school myself, so i was quite hesitant and picky at first, when my sister asked me for help in finding a piano tutor for my then 8 year-old niece... Luckily i stumbled upon Johanna! She was great and exceeded all of my expectations and fears that we had towards private tutoring. She showed a lot of patience towards the kids and made the lessons fun and something they looked forward to! The playful lessons made my nieces development seem so effortless and since she is also taking lessons in violin, it was so great to see how the skills could be transferred. Johanna is a kind and sincere teacher, which really brushed off on my niece and also very reliable, so I would definitely recommend her for private tutoring for your kids!
