Description

An intriguing, distinctive, GU shaped, heavy bronze vase thought to be either Chinese Qingdynasty. (1644–1911) or Japanese Meijiperiod (1868-1912)

The shape of the vessel is similar to other Chinese GU shapedvessels with a flared neck and base but I have been unable to find anything that is a near identical match.

The decoration on the vase’s belly panellooks to be a stylized taotie mask (archaic Chinese beast face) surrounded by aleiwen thunder scroll background. Thiswas a common motif on Chinese bronze vases of the period and were reproduced inthe Japan during the Meiji era.

The lotus flower and bud handlesare less prevalent in Chinese vases and may indicate Japanese origin.

It is very heavy 2.5 kg and has been priced realistically.
