53The battery in a Mercedes GLC 260 is located under the boot floor - simply lift the boot floor panel to access it.
To replace the battery:
- Locate the battery compartment in the boot
- Remove the retaining bar using an 8mm spanner
- Always disconnect the positive terminal first, followed by the negative
- Install the new battery in reverse order
Important UK-specific safety notes:
- Disconnecting the positive terminal first prevents potential short circuits if the spanner accidentally touches metal bodywork
- Many modern Mercedes models (including the GLC) require battery registration using STAR diagnostic equipment after replacement
- Consider using a professional garage for battery replacement, especially for newer models with start-stop technology
Common UK alternatives to the standard battery include Bosch S5 and Varta Silver Dynamic batteries, which are widely available at Halfords and other UK motor factors. For GLC models with AGM batteries (common in UK-spec cars with start-stop), expect to pay £200-£400 for a quality replacement.
