Skoda is a Czech car brand headquartered in Mladá Boleslav, currently owned by German automaker Volkswagen Group. While Skoda maintains its Czech heritage and manufacturing base, it benefits from Volkswagen's German engineering and technology. Popular Skoda models in the UK include the Octavia, Fabia, Superb and Kodiaq SUV. The brand has a rich history dating back to 1895 when it began as bicycle manufacturer Laurin & Klement before merging with Skoda Works in 1925. Volkswagen acquired a majority stake in 1991, making Skoda a fully-owned subsidiary by 2000. Today, Skoda combines Czech design with German automotive technology, offering value-focused alternatives to Volkswagen-branded vehicles while sharing platforms and components.
